ŁAŃCUT CASTLE

Łańcut is a town in south-eastern Poland, it is the capital of Łańcut County. The famous castle is situated in the centre of the town and constructed in the style of a grand aristocratic palace-residence. It is famous for its excellent interiors and its extraordinary collection of horse-drawn carriages. The unique palace complex is surrounded by an old picturesque park, in the English style. The history of Łańcut stretches back to the early Middle Ages , when it was founded as a town in 1349 under King Casmir the Great. The present beautiful castle was built for Stanislaw Lubomirski in 1629-1642. At that time it was a modern „palazzo in forteza” type of residence, consisting of living quarters with fortified towers at the corners, surrounded by bastion fortifications. In the second half of the 18th century converted the fortress into palace-park complex. The palace is currently a museum particularly well-known for its large collection of historic carriages. Since 1961 a famous classical and modern music festival is held there annually, performed by distinguished European soloists, ensambles and choirs. The amazing Parish Church going back to the 15th century.
