REGÉC

Regéc is a village 64 kilometers North-East from Miskolc. A castle has stood on the 624-meter high volcanic cliff in 1285. It was known as a Rákóczi-castle because the building lived its golden age at the time of the Rákóczi family. It is an irregular-shaped, inner towered mountain castle, which was owned by the Rákóczi family in the 17th century. They have built up an estate headquarter in the castle. Ferenc Rákóczi II has spent part of his childhood here. The archaeological excavation and restoration of the castle has been done. This is the meeting point of the National Blue Tour and Zemplén Mountains typical path, the red-marked Rákóczi hiking trail, which starts from Sárospatak and ends at the castle of Füzér. The whole mountain range and the area is suitable for small walks or serious mountain hikes as well. On the nearby waters of Bodrog river one can swim, row or go on a water tour.
