ROYAL CASTLE / WARSAW

Warsaw is the capital and the largest city of Poland. It stands in the Vistula river in east-central Poland. Warsaw’s castle, churches, mansions display a richness of color and architectural details. Buildings are representatives of nearly every European archtitectural style and historical period. The city has wonderful examples of architecture from the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neo-Classical periods, allof which are located within walking distance of the town centre. The Royal Castle located in the Castle Square, at the entrance to the Warsaw Old Town. The personal offices of the king and the administrative offices of the Royal Court of Poland were located there from the 16th century until the Partitions of Poland. It destroyed int he middle of the 17th century during the Swedish wars, it is gradually regained its former magnificance during the reign of the Saxon-Wettin dynasty. The castle has been int he 18th century the seat of both chambers of Polish parliament – Sejm. Germans destroyed the Royal Castle during the WWI. The castle has been rebuilt int he years 1971-1988 as a national monument of Polish history and culture. The magnificent royal Castle due to its iconic appearance and its long and turbulent history, is one of Warsaw’s most recongizable landmarks. In 1980, the Royal Castle, together with the Old Town was registered as a protected UNESCO World heritage Site.
