Wines and Champagnes
The tradition of winemaking in Hungary goes back to the Middle Ages, and today there are about twenty wine regions in the country. The cellars provides an impressive selection of white and red wines. Most of them are dry, though one of the most famous dessert wine- the Tokaji – is a sweet one.
There are several champagne-houses in Hungary, mostly around Budapest and in Balatonboglár .
Törley’s factory is in Budafok and it has got a delicious selection of champagnes.
Szalámi
Two major salami-factories brought world-fame for Hungary in the 19th century. Herz’s and Pick’s brands are still amongst the most popular and the highest quality salamis in the world.
Paprika
Pepper is the English word for paprika. There are two types, the sweet ( édes) and the hot ( erős) paprika. The vegetable itself is used for special Hungarian dishes, but paprika is also used as a spice. A wide selection of paprika is available at Central Market Hall. ( It is on Pest side, next to Szabadság Bridge ( the green bridge). It is closed on Sundays.
Crystal and China ( Porcelain)
Ajka Crystal has got tha largest production of crystals in Hungary. The two major china-produ-cers are the Herendi manufacture and the Zsolnay factory. They provide the highest quality goods and their history goes back to the 19th century.
