VÁSÁROSNAMÉNY

The town of Városnamény is situated where the Kraszna and Szamos River flow into Tisza, approximately 50 kilometres far from Nyíregyháza. First known owners the land were the Lónyay family who contributed to the history of the region including erections of churches, furthermore, the founded a school. In this settlement Duke Ferenc Rákóczi (1705-1711) announced his declaration (1703) which called to war all the nobles in Szabolcs County.
In 1782 László Lónyai ordered the building of a castle which later was reconstructed in Baroque style conducted by his son. Nowadays, it houses the Beregi Museum and displays archaeological, historical and folklore findings, respectively. In the old town we can discover a reformate church. In addition, the most popular lido of Felső-Tisza region awaits the visitors, also the well-liked Szilva Thermal and Wellness Spa attracts many guest. Concerning the opportunities offered by Tisza river, the lovers of water sports would be satisfied.
