KŐSZEG
Kőszeg is located in Vas County in West Hungary near to the Austrian border, well-known for its touristic features. We can discover the castle Jurisics which had been renovated for several times before it achieved its imposing appearance/exterior. In 1532, the castle suffered its famous siege by the massive army of the Ottoman Empire led by Suleiman Sultan (1520-1566). The following century provided the city to flourish and to become as an important station of a long-distance trade route.
These days the Community Centre, besides the Castle Museum welcome those who are interested in culture. In the historical old town district we can visit the still functioning City Hall which origins from the 14th-15th century, next to the spectacular neo-gothic church.
The city and the surroundings (the Kőszegi Mountain) are favoured by hikers as well as by the lovers of nature. The mountain is under the protection of the Kőszeg Landscape District because of its famous Sibrik Castle’s old park in Bozsok.
